Entrance & Exit Counseling

Entrance & Exit Counseling

It is important for students to understand the terms and conditions of the loans they use for college. To make sure that students know their rights and responsibilities under the federal student loan system, the government requires students to complete a brief online tutorial known as Entrance Counseling. While we're happy to help families complete and submit their student loan applications, we do require that students complete the entrance counseling component on their own.

Entrance counseling is completed online at the Federal Student Loan Web Site, www.studentloans.gov. Students will be required to review information about the various loans and prove their competency by completing a brief quiz. There is no time limit on the quiz and students may retake the quiz as many times as they need to achieve a passing score.

To complete entrance counseling simply visit www.studentloans.gov and log in. The student will need to have their Federal Student Aid PIN number handy. Once they have logged in they will select "Entrance Counseling" from the list of options on the left-hand side of the screen. Once they have successfully completed the process the system will then allow the schools to disburse the funds for the coming semester. Keep in mind that this process must be completed prior to the student's first semester of college and will only need to be completed once. (If the student switches schools he or she may need to complete the process again, depending on the policies of the individual school.)

After graduation, students will be provided with a link to the Exit Counseling system. This process is similar to the entrance counseling component.
